Identity Preserved

What is the OSIA Identity Preserved (IP) Program?

The IP program is a comprehensive record keeping, field inspection and lab testing program for products and non-GMO varieties, administrative by a third party seed industry quality control agency.

What does the IP program mean?

IP helps assure the production of genetically pure product or grain by planting seed of a known variety, extensive record keeping, field inspection, and post harvest testing programs. Program requirements increase the probability of end users obtaining non-GMO product.

What is OSIA’s role in IP?

OSIA is an unbiased third party agency which administers the record keeping, field inspection, and lab testing for the IP program. OSIA’s role is to help identify acceptable lots of product before they enter the marketplace. OSIA’s seed and grain inspection service’s are backed by more than 90 years of experience and objectivity.

How do I know if seed is IP inspected?

Look for the IP logo on the tag or on the program certificate. The IP logo means that the product being offered for sale has been monitored, field inspected and lab tested using IP procedures administered by a third party Crop Improvement Agency.

What does IP do for me?

IP does not guarantee 100% non-GMO product, however it provides a third party comprehensive quality control system to monitor, measure and report product or grain identity and purity from planting, during the growing season and prior to final product shipment.  IP programs increase the probability that an acceptable product quality level will be delivered to the end user and the system approach assists in identifying unacceptable lots.

Is the IP system better than a single elevator grain test at harvest?

A comprehensive multi-phased grower education, record keeping and field tracking system is preferred.  This involves the planting of a known seed source, field inspection during the growing season and post harvest laboratory testing which increases the probability of the end user obtaining an acceptable non-GMO product. Multiple checks are preferred over a single grain sample test conducted at the product storage or receiving site.
